Being The Church

Where is the church? In Acts 2:40-42 we learn about the purposes of the church. “With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Three Parts of “Being the Church”
1. The Church is to be active. (and not just on Sundays)
Filled with joy, the realization of “church” is outside the building: at work, school, with families, neighbors, and in the community… Acts 2:43-47
2. Be the church – not just sit in it. (the building)
When will we seize the opportunity given to us to be the hands and feet of Jesus? John 13:12-17 12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13″You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘LORD,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14Now that I, your LORD and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
3. The church is called to bring the hope of Christ into the world. The walls can’t but you can… 1 Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and Romans 5:2-5 (In Christ) through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
If you trust in Jesus as your Savior, then you are the church!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
